Where I work, I earn so many sick hours per month. I work forty hours a week and am granted ten hours a month in sick leave. Sick days are not considered vacation days. Vacation days should be taken on a scheduled, optional basis. Sick days should be used when one is ACTUALLY sick or for a scheduled doctor's appointment. If I am out sick for more than three days, I need a doctor's note. But there is no explanation needed to take my vacation time.
I also accrue ten hours of vacation time a month. That is actually quite a bit because it works out that I get three weeks a year. So if you want to grant two weeks of vacation a year you'll have to have your employees accrue approximately seven hours a month for them to obtain a two week vacation at forty hours a week.
